Welcome to the Mills College Art Museum. We are excited to offer you a closer look at our dynamic exhibitions, programs, and collections. Founded in 1925 in a stunning architectural setting, the Mills College Art Museum was built with the goal of actively engaging students, faculty, and the surrounding communities through the work of living artists and the history of art. More than 80 years later, the art museum is still dedicated to being a laboratory for creative expression and to using our collection as a resource to explore issues, histories, and ideas relevant to our time.

Our mission is to explore and provoke new thinking through visual arts, including interdisciplinary programming that connects contemporary artists with the various creative and intellectual opportunities on campus. As part of a vital liberal arts college with a focus on undergraduate women’s education and a vibrant graduate program for women and men in studio art, the art museum actively supports the creativity of women and students through our exhibitions and work-study program.

The Mills College Art Museum also serves as a gateway to the diverse communities of our region, connecting with the greater San Francisco Bay Area and beyond. Our programs and exhibitions are designed to encourage unique and stimulating experiences and conversations. I hope you find our website useful in planning your visit, and I invite you to join us in our galleries—admission is always free.
